Hi, my name is Leslie Coronel and I am part of Evanston Scholars Class of 2012. My family is from a Michoacan, Mexico. I am the oldest of four and will be the first person in my family to attend college.
My favorite extra curricular activity was SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) because we won the regional competition in science and mathematics and got to travel to Washington DC! My favorite subject in high school was AP Chemistry, by far. The material we learned was not only interesting, but relevant to anything and everything around us.
My most recent achievement was winning the North End Mother’s Club award and being voted most outstanding Senior Girl by my peers! It was such an honor and made me proud of all of my hard work the past four years.
Next year I will be a freshman at Amherst College and I would like to double major in Spanish and Economics. However, I am open-minded and that is subject to change.
Evanston Scholars provided me with the support that my parents could unfortunately not provide during the college application practice. Through ES I was introduced to the college and career center counselors. For the first time in my high school career, I visited the College and Career center at my school, comforted by the fact that I was now familiar with the people that worked there. It was no longer an unknown place and I would spend my free period in the CCC everyday for my entire senior year surrounded by multiple resources and wonderful people willing to help. As my freshman year of college approaches I hope to meet and become friends with as many people as possible and have the time of my life while receiving an extraordinary education.
