College Coaches/Peer MentoringProgram’s Mission: Evanston Scholars is a Non-Profit Organization that improves college access and success for a diverse group of ambitious Evanston students, starting with the college admissions process and continuing until graduation. The program offers workshops, mentors, college coaches, and a $1,500 scholarship. Overview of College Coach Role: A college coach is a peer mentor, a current student (or recent grad) to help our Scholars transition smoothly to college. Our Scholars already have Mentors from our community that started with them in Junior year and stay with them until they finish college. The College Coach helps Scholars transition to his/her particular school. College Coaches serve as another layer of support so that Scholars can successfully finish college. Ultimately, they are resources for students concerning academic, social, and personal issues. Communication primarily comes in the form of email or phone, approximately once per month. If you would like to volunteer to be a college coach, please contact Steve Newman at snewman@evanstonscholars.org. |
