Hi! My name is Bryanna Adams and I am a part of the second generation of Evanston Scholars -- that is, I am a part of the Class of 2013. Born and raised in Evanston, I am the oldest daughter, granddaughter, and niece on either side of my family, thus being the first “baby” to leave for college.
At Evanston Township, I participated in a lot of activities: cheerleading, volleyball, theater, choir, and school musicals. My favorite thing that I did is Poetry Slam. I was a member of the Slam Team for three years and I was the captain for two of those years. We participate in the Louder Than A Bomb spoken word festival every year and for the last couple years, we have made it to semi-finals. For the biggest poetry festival in the world, making it to the top 16 teams is a huge deal! My favorite subject in school was probably Creative Writing, my Senior English elective. It helped me become more open-minded and it definitely gave me an edge on my poetry.
In a few months, I will be a freshman at Marist College, a small liberal arts school in Poughkeepsie, New York. I would like to be a Criminal Justice major with a minor in Psychology and Spanish. There are a lot of things that attract me like Communications and Broadcasting, Education, or Law. However, I’m not undecided, I’m just...multi-interested.
Evanston Scholars was nothing short of a blessing. Without this program, I have no idea where I would be in terms of college. As freshmen and sophomores, we’re only aware of the schools that we see on television. We only know about the Big 10 schools and the ones we’ve seen in our March Madness brackets. I’ve found a pretty good fit at Marist College. This program broadened my understanding of what a good school is, equipped me with priceless resources, introduced me to wonderful mentors, and gave me the resources to make adult-like decisions. My freshman year of college is slowly creeping up on me and I just hope that I can meet new friends, try new things, and receive an amazing education. I can’t wait!
