Ian Williams
Ian has over three and a half years of professional experience working in the college access world. After graduating from the University of Chicago in 2012 with a degree in Cinema & Media Studies, he served as an AmeriCorps Scholar Coach for the Schuler Scholar Program. After two years of service as a Scholar Coach, Ian continued to work for Schuler as a full-time Educational Counselor at RTC Medical Preparatory Magnet High School where he focused on helping Scholars transition to high school and develop their personal study habits, time management, organization skills, and goals.
Ian discovered his passion for mentoring and advising youth during his time at the U of C through his work as a Resident Assistant and as a member of the student group Performing Arts for Effective Civic Education (P.A.E.C.E.). As a member of P.A.E.C.E., Ian helped teach local high school students current social issues through the use of a variety of performing arts like spoken word, hip-hop, and dance. Ian is also an alum of the U of C's Summer Links Internship that is run through the University's Community Service Center and provides undergraduate students who are committed to public service, community-building, and social change with local Chicago internships that are focused around social justice education.
In his free time, Ian is involved in improv comedy and music production. He's a graduate of The Second City Training Center's Conservatory program and can often be found performing with his groups at a one of a number of theaters across the north side of Chicago.
